This industry, focuses (primarily) on how clothes are made and designed. The  textile courses and fashion degree  given to all candidates appearing for examinations in fashion designing institute or fashion designing colleges all around the world. 

From the era when humans paid little or no attention to clothing and fashion business, there have been a paradigm shift, and the world is gradually moving to the era where the best fashion designing institutes is playing a major role in people’s life.

According to statistical data provided by Fashion United, the 2017 value of the global fashion Industry worth about 3 trillion dollars, contributing 2% of the world’s Gross Domestic Product. In the same vein, Statistica projects that the fashion market from the United States from 2012- 2025 is expected to grow from 350 billion USD in 2015, to 385 billion USD in 2025; a little downward slope from what is excepted in the Asia Pacific region which includes India. This alarming increase is not far fetched. Clothing lines and brands are attracting tons of investors; the fabric and textile market in South East Asia is receiving massive boom. A couple of fashion designers are working round the clock to update their designs and correct mistakes done in old editions. The global market is adding tremendously to the world’s Gross Domestic Product.

Industry Overview

Fashion is obviously an aspect of human life that cannot be undermined. This has created an industry for itself and today, the fashion and garment industry is a multi billion dollar merchandise devoted to the business of making, selling and designing clothes. The British Encyclopedia illustrates the fashion industry as “the style (or styles) of clothing accessories worn at any given time by groups of people”. It further explained that ” there may be differences between the expensive designer fashion shown on the runways of Paris or New York, and the mass produced sportswear and street styles sold in malls and markets around the world”. The fashion and garments industry in its entirety, do not just cut across design making and manufacturing. There are other aspects such as brand promotion and advertising, marketing and sales of designer wears.

Every now and then, fashion shows are organized by top brand dealers, and every now and then, the runway is graced with beautiful designs worn by models as camera flashes lighten the air. Red carpets do no stop seeing the beauty of these designs as they are worn by celebrities and other notable personalities around the world. This is a pointer to the fact that the industry, despite the craze it is attracting, is on it’s way to taking over the world stage. From the most expensive couture and designer fashion, down to regular designers and to the aspect of fabrics, there is a sense of class, a touch of perfection and  an aura of elegance that cannot be ignored.

Because of its growth, the fashion industry, have attracted other accessories such as production of footwear – shoes and sandals. Interestingly, a couple of designers that once specialized in the clothing industry have been able to add the making of footwear into their brand.

Economically, this industry have opened huge doors of investments. It has provided a strong base for revenue generation, trade has received  a makoty boost as well. Advanced models of marketing, advertising and showcasing brands to the public have been employed, owing to the advancement attracted by this industry. One can therefore not deny the very fact that this industry has greatly benefited the world’s economy and provided a beautiful benchmark for human capital development. According to postulations, the labor intensity in the industry is likely to increase in coming years since the industry keeps experiencing large scale growth and advancement.

OPPORTUNITIES.

The Fashion and garment industry is one that experiences massive human labor influx year in, year out. As a matter of fact, it is one industry with one of the highest ratio of employability – providing various platforms by which humans can be employed and also build a career. As at 2014, about 75 million people were employed in this industry and compared to the 20 million two years before that, you can see huge growth. Career opportunities under this industry includes, fashion designer, brand investors, brand models/ ambassadors, seeing experts (tailors) and more.

√ Fashion Designer : This is seen as the umbrella profession in the industry. The possible reason for this is that without the fashion designer, there would be no fashion industry. It is the duty of the fashion designer to utilize his/her creative skill and come up with top touch designers. They draw sketch of what they have in mind,  and from these sketches they make beautiful dresses and designs that will meet customer’s satisfaction at all times. These designs could come in different models. It just be in form of shirt, pants, shoes and other footwears and even lingerie. Fashion designers are embodiment of creativity and swift thinking. The challenge however is that they get to do everything possible to keep meeting consumer demands per time, and also improve of already old designs that have flood the market. In a pain sense, without any verboseness, Fashion designers design dresses (and other things that pertains to fashion)

√ Brand Models / Ambassadors : These group of persons are specially employed by the designer companies to showcase the clothing line and fashion accessories produced by the company. They usually grace the runway, red carpets and cameras of paparazzis that  further spread the product. Over the years, as the industry have also attracted prominence, companies are now taking into cognisance of fact that PR is needed for their product to gather sufficient patronage in the market and the major catalyst for this PR is the use of brand ambassadors and models. They wear the clothing and by so doing, market will be open to a wide range of Individuals

√ Fashion Journalists : On a general note, journalists source for news, writes and then reports the gathered news to the needed audience. Going by this, Fashion journalist, carries and reports fashion news. They are up-to-date with the fashion trend, the last line in production and the reception each fashion products get from the general public. They also conduct interviews with leading fashion experts in the industry and write reports or articles on their thoughts and findings regarding any fashion related issue. It is one very profession that deals more on cognition. Ability to speak and write very well gives one an edge in this profession.

√ Garment Technologist: The garment technologist is a more technical profession in the fashion industry. The people under this category, work hand in hand with fashion designers, and other production team to ensure that quality in the product being produced is not compromised in any way. They also look out for other things like fitting requirements, the size that best suits a brand and they are also on the lookout for any possible flaw that might affect the level of acceptance the product will attract when released into the market. They are others known as the “checkers” in the industry.

√ Garment/ Textile Fabric Colorist : The garment and fashion industry is one that attracts a lot of color appeal. The beauty of a fashion brand is largely determined by the kind of color combination used. It is as a result of this, most fashion brand seek the use of expert colorists. Who wound determine what kind of color combination that is needed to sell a particular product as the case maybe.
